Question
by: Becky

I have been thinking of adopting a Serval cat in the future but first want to know as much information as possible. What are Servals like with other animals as I already have a cat and a dog, my dog is no threat though as he is very well behaved with my cat. Would a be able to allow Servals out to roam freely like ordinary cats? i live in the country and are surrounded by fields and mountains. Would I be better off adopting two so they can keep each other company hen im not there?

Answer:

Hi, I'm Michael. I run this website. I have not lived with a Serval. But they are wild cats, tamed to be domesticated. There are numerous considerations. Have a look at the Serval page on this site first. Think of legal requirements first. I don't know where you live but there will certainly be legal requirements. Running wild - no. The only practical way is a very large enclosure in my opinion but seek the advice of a Serval or Savannah breeder for first hand experience. I list some at the base of the Savannah and Serval pages.

Servals will be demanding. You must have the time and resources (financially and in terms of time).

I want one desperately!

Could you please educated me on what I am in stale for?! If I desperately want to own one? Thanks ~Mary xoxo

Response from Admin:- If you would like to live with a Serval, I would first read the page on this site and ask yourself if you can manage and have the right set up at home to accomodate a Serval, which is a tamed wild cat. There are real demands in time, space and expense. The rewards are high too but above all you must do what is right for the cat. Think twice even three times.
