Cao - photo and painting by Julie

Cao was an amazing cat. She was pure Siamese but I was never concerned with papers or pedigree. We got her from a mall. She was the runt of the litter. She fit in the palm of my hand. She had a respiratory infection and almost died.

She ate a teaspoon of cat food at a time. She would only eat Purina seafood cat chow. We tried to get her to eat something different once and she wouldn't eat for two days. She was set in her ways and never budged an inch.

Although you can't see her brilliant blue eyes in this picture; it is one of my favorite pictures of her. she was such a little Diva!

She lived for nineteen years. Cao grew up with all the kids of our family; they all have good memories of her.

She brought so much joy to so many people, we have a year's worth of stories. This is an oil painting I painted a few years before her death from cancer (signed with my middle name).

Cao loved to hide in the middle of the Teddy Bears and do her imitation of E.T.

She loved all our feral cats over the years and was best friends with our Collie Merlin (who has since joined her). Hope you all like the painting. I had to put it up for a while and we just hung it back on the wall last night.

It makes us a bit sad still but she was such a love and well worth remembering. The only love we really keep is the love we give away!

Excellent painting. I always console myself wheneever I lose something precious or a loved one, human or a pet, "It is better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all".

What a lovely story. You were very lucky to have had her in your life. Cats really are part of the family. I dread the thought of any of my cats becoming older. Im sure she had a good life and lots of love. Your painting is lovely also. It makes me want to have portraits done of all my cats. What a great memory.

Cao the Beautiful

Julie, that painting is magnificent. You've surely captured the essence of what was Cao. The photo is also a winner, capturing her at her best. Take comfort in knowing you gave her a wonderful life, filled with love and joy. The memories will always be there in your heart.

Great picture, Julie. You really caught her at ease, but yet allert. There's an air of mystery about her. ;-)
Yes, 19 years sure cover a lot of time in a the life of a family. On the table next to me I have old Milly in her 16th year - I held her in the palm of my hand when she was just newborn and since then she has been part of everything. I know some day we'll have to part, so I take every opportunity to tell her what a good cat she has been to us and have grateful we are.

Hi Julie. Love the painting and the story. I moved the submission to the traditional Siamese cat page.
