Feral Cats

by Sally
(America)

There was a feral cat near my neighbourhood. She was a was a beautiful tawny coloured cat. I have seen someone throwing objects at her. I was very upset and angry. People kill cats when there are too many of them but I dont see them killing humans when there is an overcrowding.

I am an animal enthusiast and believe that the earth belongs to animals not only humans. Back to my story. I soon decided to take her in. She was nervous at first but she soon calmed down. She was very sweet but she did not even touch her cat food.

I thought of buying dead mice but it seemed very disgusting. I then decided to try fresh fish and she loved it. I have now been keeping her for two years and she seems comfortable living with me but one day she went missing. I was distressed.

Two days later she came back and test results shows that she was going to have kittens! Soon she had 2 kittens and they will be both living with me...

HI SALLY
by: Julie

Sally,
You are wonderful to adopt a whole family of ferels. Ferels are truely a joy. The younger you get them the better chance for socialization. I keep mine in the house .We have so many preditors here.. coyote, fox, owls (and in January Eagles) not to mention dogs. When they are in the wild they must always be on guard and alert. They react to every sound. The freedom they have is at a great price. They live in a propetual state of "Survival Mode". All cats are a blessing but it takes a bit more work for ferels because what is a must in the wild for survival dosen't always translate to house pet. And the thing is,they are all diffrent so each one of them brings their own challanges. The little ones will not be as flighty they will know safety and have a sence of peace that their mother will not let herselves have. God luck and God Bless. I would love to see the babies pictures!

Im so glad to know that i am not the only one who feels this way. I loved your story and I too agree that we humans need to share the earth.

Sally the Feral Cat Rescuer!
by: Gail (Boston, MA USA)

Hooray for your feral! Some people believe that feral cats can never be socialized; however, your very touching story says otherwise.

Thank you Sally, from the bottom of every feral's heart, for your kindest consideration of another living, breathing, sentient being.

Yes, humans are only a miniscule species that share the earth. Motherhood told your feral to return to the one place where she found love, warmth and understanding. BRAVO!

Hi
by: Michael (PoC Admin)

Hi Sally. I love your thoughts. I think the same. And if we are to create a better world your thoughts are the right ones.

Yours is a tender story of love for the vulnerable animal in a human world.
