Helmi Flick, who I admire greatly, chose my cat Candy (co-owned with and bred by Bruce Alexy of Alexy Abyssinians) as the example of an Abyssinian for the annual 2009-2010 issue of the Kittens USA Magazine!

RW QGC Alexy Braeside Candytuft of Aksum is a chocolate Abyssinian who is 2009 TICA's International Best Chocolate Abyssinian and 2009 TICA SE Region's Best Abyssinian. She is the 4th Best Abyssinian in the U.S. and the 2nd Best Female Abyssinian in the U.S. All of that was while only being shown for half of the show year.

Candy has had one beautiful litter of kittens, two of which have been shown this show year have won Top Ten Ribbons already. One of them is a chocolate female named Aksum Tiny Dancer destined to eventually replace Candy as a breeding queen once Candy is retired. The other is a beautiful ruddy male named Aksum Smoke on the Water who carries the chocolate gene and the dilute gene, the only one we know of in the world with these special genetics.

Helmi Flick has photographed Candy's beautiful babies too, and captured their personality amazingly well, as always!

Thank you, Helmi!

Walks like an Egyptian
by: Finn Frode, Denmark

She's pure perfection - no wonder she has become a star at the shows.

Although the origin of this breed is still a little uncertain, many see great similarities to the cats shown in ancient Egyptian art. The lighting on Helmi's great photo really adds to the mystique - and she walks like an Egyptian. ;-)

In case you too like elegant abys, check the other pictures at Susan Graham's site.

Candy for Kittens USA
by: Helmi Flick

Susan, I am honored by your words. I was pleased to submit Candy to Kittens USA for consideration and was tickled that they chose her. She gave me an excellent sitting as you can tell by the pose Susan used at the top of the article.

One of the joys of being a cat photographer is getting published. But the icing on the cake is when you get to tell a breeder that their cat was chosen for publication. It still thrills me!

Beautiful
by: Michael

Susan, thanks a lot for sharing this. This is one of the best visitor submissions we have had and we have had over 500!

Candy is pure class. She looks so perfect; beautifully proportioned. I am thrilled that you have shown her picture to all our visitors.
