I don't know that I am blind

by Michael

Cats that are blind don't now it. They behave as if they are sighted in fact. They are in effect. Their other senses, particularly of sound and smell take over and provide sight. It is almost as if Oscar in the video can see. I sense that Oscar is not depressed or frustrated about being blind. Oscar does not know that he is blind and if he does he takes it in his stride.

Perhaps Oscar was born blind...I have just learnt that he was born blind. His eyeballs were not formed properly.

I love the senses of cats and how they compensate. And I love the resolute character of cats and how they just get on with things.

it never fails to amaze me how animals just get on with stuff that would emotionally cripple us puny humans. we have had cats here at the sanctuary with terrible injuries. Daphne was kicked by a horse and her owner didn't want a vet bill of course. she brought her to us saying 'she had a bit of a limp' her leg was hanging off!!! after having the leg amputated Daphne, who was about 6 months old at the time, came back from the vet and immediately tried to climb and jump and play. we of course, panicking, tried to stop her. she wouldn't be stopped, her recovery amazed everyone. having 3 legs didn't bother her at all. she is in her new home now and thinks nothing of climbing trees, walls or anything else in her path. can you imagine losing a limb like that, we'd never recover the way a cat can, physically or emotionally. the way animals cope with things like this is fantastic, we could learn a thing or two.

After having a particularly bad day on the farm, I watched this heart warming video of Oskar, ( I teared up ) Such a wonderful home and he is truly a special kitty. Thanks for the uplift.

Lovely video
by: Ruth

What a lovely video and how wonderful that Oscar has such a good home. His people must be very thoughtful to have provided him with balls with bells in, he almost looks as if he can see the one he is chasing !
Thankfully with being born blind, Oscar will never know what he is missing.
I love the resolute character of cats too Michael and how they adapt to anything life throws at them.
