Merlin the Magician

by Jan Plant
(Marion,Texas U.S.)

Dark magician

Dark magician

This is Merlin, our feral cat colony magician. He's Mauve's brother and really fairly mellow. He's also one of the best and constant hunters. I usually go out on our deck and feed the cats about 530 or 600 a.m. and enjoy my first cup of coffee and referee any arguments( Usually caused by the local orange and white freeloading pet tom.)

Ever since Merlin here learned how to hunt and do it well, my morning is never complete until he delivers his kill. Or catch. A few times the mouse or bird is still alive.

I realize he's showing me his prowess and that he's doing his job. Just that it freaked me out a bit when the dang mouse ran up my leg once. LOL!

Thank goodness I wasn't holding hot coffee. I named him Merlin as he has a way of moving so quickly from spot to spot, sometimes you don't realize it.

And he'll snatch food from the other cats like he's doing a card trick. He is not human friendly but to two of us. I don't believe he's ever been touched. He will leg rub myself and another lady but that's all.

He is a real beauty though with that long jet black coat and amber eyes and one tiny white spot on his chest.

Silent movers
by: Michael

I know what you mean about cats being magicians especially black cats in dusky conditions.

They can move very silently, quickly and almost invisibly and then they are hard to see...all like magic.

Sometimes I have gone in search of my girl cat in the apartment and failed to find her! Despite the fact that she's there...somewhere..
