My Norwegian Forest Cat

by Lynn
(Staffordshire, England)

We visited our local cats home with the intention of looking for a friend for our cat, a Seal Point Tabby, we were looking at black and white kittens, but this ball of fluff just came to us and started to play, nibble, and wash us.

We fell in love with him, and he came home with us. He is a ginger/orange with white underside
colour.

When we took him to our vet he told us we had a Norwegian Forest Cat. He is 8 years old this year and he is the most loving, playful and faithful, yes faithful cat. All this and he was injured in a car accident 5 years ago. We were warned that he would not ever walk again and may have other problems, but he had other ideas.

Our vets were fantastic and we worked with him. He wanted to be normal and over the next few weeks he not only walked, he jumps, runs and plays.

Yes, he does have a hump in his back (we affectionately call him 'Humphrey' after the camel) but he has exceeded all expectations and the vet did say that it was easier for him because they have really strong hind legs.

The hard work of massage, small movement exercises, building over weeks, and lots of hugs, cuddles and love paid off as he has a full quality of life.

He does go out but he does not go anywhere near cars now, he stays close to home and as he gets older he prefers to stay in the house or in the sun on our porch.

He loves me to sit with him and we talk. There will never be another like him. He is fantastic company and yes he does still chase me when he wants me to go where he wants me to go.
