My Stray Cat

by Charlie
(Scotland)

I would like to tell you about my stray cat. I found her on the street a long time ago. At the time I was married and we had 2 other cats. Despite that I could not leave her out in the cold. She was pleased to see me and asking for some food. I gave her some food. I left it in the basement area of out house. In fact it was left overs from our other cats. I also left a kettle full of hot water to act a bit like a radiator as the area where I was feeding her was unheated and almost outside.

She wolfed down all the food and the next night I did the same. After that she began to come in to the house. The other cats were OK about this. All three were lined up munching away close to each other.

She ate so much I was unsure if she was pregnant. At one stage I thought I would give her away to a neighbor who was an old lady. But my girl cat was looking pregnant at this stage. She was in fact simply full of food and looking a bit cow-like. This put off my neighbor and the rest is history.

All that was about 16 years ago. When I first saw her she was skinny. After day 2 she was plump and she has never been skinny ever again. I love her more than she will ever know.

Charlie

Reading this has made my day happier !I'm so glad that cat came to you and not someone who would have chased her away. It's funny how cats know who to trust !
Best wishes.

You've done right
by: Finn Frode, Denmark

Thank you for sharing this very touching story. I'd love to see a picture, though... ;-)
You did right by feeding that poor, skinny cat back then, Charlie - and since you've had her for 16 years now, you surely have done things right ever since and her "cow-like" (love that description) belly obviously was no medical problem, but just the way she looks.
Yes, we do get to love them - especially those with a troubled past. Cats like that are fondly remembered long after they're gone. May she live for many more years.
