She was only the cat that wanted to be chosen

She lays there quiet and silent
Those emerald eyes dilated and gone
The person that hit her was out of sight --
Not caring for the life withdrawn

A distant laugh "it was just a cat"
Perhaps that's all she was, just a pet
To everyone but me... she was a friend --
That is now all unmoving and wet.

She was an unknown friend
3 years seemed as only yesterday
That I saw the beautiful eyes of her
That was once happy in frolic play.

I remember the silent message "Help me"
But... she is now stiff in my arms
Time goes by so fast and suddenly
How can one cause so much harm?

The cat was a lonely creature
Who only wanted to roam
To be loved and lay in the grass --
And a furever home.

Is this girl really gone?
The rain cries for her, my heart frozen
She lays gone and mangled on the floor --
She was only the cat that wanted to be chosen.

a reminder
by: kathy

Zach your poem reminded me of my first cat, she got out the door one morning and was killed by a car because my husband at that time didnt want to take the time to get her back inside. Sad.

Cat poetry
by: Rudolph.A.Furtado

When are you going to get your poetry on cats published? Very touching and excellently told.
