Tanith, a feral cat that became a best friend

When I was about 15, my mom had started dating a man who would later become my step father. He and her went on a drive and discovered a stray cat, with a bloody eye, stuck in a tree.

They rescued her and he paid for the medical bills, but her eyes was permanently gone. My mother, against her better judgment, took the cat home, where I met and fell in love with her. I named her Tanith, and she became the best cat I've ever known.

She is incredibly intelligent, a good hunter despite her disabilities and her small size, and she loves her family immensely.

She is also gorgeous, and after looking at your site, I was amazed to find she has no resemblance to a Bengal, which we thought she originally was, but more of a California Spangled. She is gorgeous, and requires little maintenance.

It's heart wrenching to find out she could have been killed, had someone else found her. She is an amazing cat, and it's not fair to ferals to give them no hope.

I've known some cats that were feral and always will be, but Tanith has shown me not all wild cats cannot become a loving pet.

Tanith

I'm so glad Tanith was rescued by your mom and step dad and has such a happy life despite her problems. Have you any photos of her ?
I think maybe it was a typo Tracey and only her bloody eye was gone, not both.

Her eyes were gone?

Sorry? You say her eyes were gone? How did she hunt?

Agreed

Nice story. I couldn't agree more. Feral cats are slaughtered too readily and sometimes needlessly it seems to me. And in the first place they should not be in the position they find themselves in. It is all down to people in the long term and how we care for our cats.

Thanks for sharing.
