The
WC book is ideal
material for the basis of on line forums based on the RPG model. RPG
stands for "Role Playing Games". They gave mainly young people the
chance to socialize, play games, roll play and escape the realities of
the world for hours on end judging by the results of the poll for
commitment.
Using the form below it is also possible to upload in your own time either photographs, drawings and text on any subject to do with Warrior cats. You can leave links to (you'll need to use some HTML for the links). The voting process has taken place for some time now and the forums that I selected were taken from the first 3 pages of a Google Search listing. They were then the most established forums. Although new forums have been added over time. The list has to constantly change and be updated. You can see the submissions made by Warrior cats by clicking here and scrolling down. Feel free to make comments on the postings. An exchange of views and ideas is welcome and useful. If you have anything that you would like add or remove please tell me by making a posting on the form below. I do make videos on cat breeds using the superb photographs of Helmi Flick. This link takes you to my YouTube web page. I don't have the material to make a video on Warrior cats unless you provide me with the material. You can do that by using the form below. Of course you can make your own video. You can use free Microsoft Software which you can download from this webpage. Some thoughts about the type of cats described in the WC booksIt
must be said that the
quality of the Warrior Cats websites is extremely high. The standard
seems to have improved over the years.
I
There are now 20 books in the WC series. The early part of book one when Rusty decides to go into the forest reflects a lot about cats. Domestic cats are, at heart, wild cats. When they walk through the cat flap they walk from being dependent on their human companion to being a wild cat, able to hunt still afer all those years of domestication and being fed. All the instincts are intact. A cat has fantastic senses. As the book says they have a gland in the mouth to boost the sense of smell, which kicks into action when the mouth is opened. A cat's eyes are much better than ours in the dark as they have a reflective coating at the back of the eye. A cat is very athletic. The Norwegian Forest Cat is a particularly good jumper; her skills were probably developed over hundreds of years living semi-wild in the forests of Norway. They can jump vertically from a standing start about 6 feet or more (if you include the little climb at the end). And they can climb trees as if born to it, which they are. When a Norwegian Forest Cat comes down a tree they sometimes come down head first, racing down vertically between the branches, a magnicent and inspiring sight. They are made for the forest and are great Warrior cats. See a video about this cat breed here. When a cat kills he or she senses the nape of the neck (back of the neck) of the prey by using her whiskers to wrap around the prey (her whiskers are sensitive enough to feel currents of air and also help her to see in the dark). When that particular part of the neck has been found (extremely quickly) she inserts her teeth in between the bones of the spinal cord and kills with ease. About the Cats
Rusty judging by the picture on the books cover, is a "solid red" or diluted red cat. To use ordinary language he is a ginger cat and handsome too. Ginger is a dilution of red one of the colors produced by the genes of a cat that controls the color of the coat. He is said to be a natural leader. Some cats are more aggressive and what I would call Alpha Cats. They lead. You'll find them in feral colonies which is I guess a clan really. The wildcat hybrids are more likely to be cat leaders and I expect the Persians and Himalayans are followers. Wildcats are generally more intelligent it is thought. See a great ginger Doll Face Traditional Persian. The skinny cat varieties tend, it seems, to be more intelligent too; such as the Oriental Shorthair and Havana Brown. The Sphynx is supposed to be the most intelligent but it is pretty well hairless so would not do a very good job of surviving in the forest. He likes a good fire and a heated blanket at night. However, intelligence makes it more likely that the cat will be a leader. Remember, I am talking about purebred cats here. It seems that most if not all the Warrior Cats are mixed breed cats or as the Cat Fancy calls them "Household Pets". They are generally more robust than the purebreds.
Graypaw
is
another gray (grey) cat. He is also called "Graystripe". The picture of
him indicates that he is smaller than Bluestar and more "cute" looking.
If he is pure grey he could be one of the grey cat breeds mentioned
above or for example the British
Shorthair. This cat breed
can have almost
any coat color but perhaps the classic color is grey/blue.
This color is in
fact called "blue" in the cat fancy. The face of this cat is very
similar
to the drawing in the book (or on the WC website).
Sandpaw is a "solid and white" cat by the look of his appearance. He is dilute red - ginger - with white spotting caused by the white spotting or piebald gene. He might be a ginger tabby and white. He has the appearance of a thoroughly able Moggie cat (mixed-breed). He is said to be an excellent hunter. Most domestic cats are in fact. Tigerclaw is almost certainly a classic brown tabby. The best camouflage for the forest and grassland. The tabby pattern is best seen on the small wild cats such as the American Bobcat, Scottish Wildcat, Asian Fishing cat and Sand cat (see links below - Cherith Baltry). This coat type is very commonly encountered in the wild. The big cats like the Tiger don't, it seems, need camouflage because they are No.1. Speaking of the Tiger, cat breeders are developing a toy Tiger called the Toyger by selective breeding of tabby cats with the mackerel pattern (stipped pattern).
Cherith
Baldry
go
to top of pageAll the writers obviously like cats. Cherith lives with cats and her first was tabby cat called Tomlyn. Tabbies are the most common cat coat because it is the most successful for survival. A lot of small wild cats have brown or grey/brown tabby coats, such as the American Bobcat, the Scottish Wildcat, the Lynx, Asian Fishing Cat and the Sand cat. Tomlyn was a cross between a Siamese cat (fully domesticated) and an African Bush cat. I presume the African cat was at least semi-wild, probably completely wild which tell us how common it actually is for wild cats to mate with domestic cats. When done deliberately you have breeds such as the Bengal, Savannah, Chausie and Safari cats. I was thought that the Pixiebob was a wild cat cross but DNA tests do not supports this. At the time of writing this, Cherith has 2 cats living with her, Bramble a brown tabby and Sorrel a small tortoiseshell cat. Kate Cary Kate's first cat as a child was a black cat. She obviously loves cats and now lives with 2 cats, Flower and Miu Miu. The Bombay is a purebed black cat and can only be black. Victoria Holmes Victoria, like, Cherith, was brought up on a farm - a great introduction to animals. She prefers dogs to cats. That's OK as long as you like cats .Sources:
